Route I
The Holy Bishop: life and works of Saint Alfonso Maria de Liguori

An itinerary linking together places that bear witness to the presence, life and preaching of the Neapolitan Saint, starting from the Diocesan Museum, a small 16th-century church now used as a museum and enriched with artistic testimonies, which introduces us to the context in which the Holy Bishop worked during his years here in the village.

The journey then continues into the Hall of Coats of Arms, so called because of the presence of no less than 70 effigies: here there are works, autographed letters, the Mitre and the See used by Saint Alphonso and, finally, a corridor leads to the Saint’s private flats.

The highlight of the visit is a hidden treasure in the oldest part of the Episcope: the tunnel frescoed in 1614 by Bishop Diotallevi and perfectly preserved. Here St Alphonsus would gather in silence and solitude to atone for his sins: a ‘path’ of contemplation that, centuries later, we are privileged to admire.
